Publisher's Summary

A Wall Street Journal best seller.

Sheriff Bree Taggert is blindsided by a killer’s devious plan in number one Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Melinda Leigh’s novel of escalating shock and suspense.

When Sheriff Bree Taggert discovers the body of a young woman floating near the bank of the Scarlet River, a note in her abandoned car suggests suicide. The autopsy reveals a different story. Holly Thorpe was dead long before she dropped off the bridge and hit the water.

As Bree and her investigator Matt Flynn delve into the case, secrets in Holly’s personal life complicate their efforts to solve the murder. Holly left behind a volatile marriage, an equally divisive relationship with her sister, and an employer whose intimate involvement with Holly was no secret. Each one has a motive for murder.

When Holly’s sister is terrorized by a stalker’s sick prank, and the prime suspect turns up dead, everything Bree was sure of is upended and her case goes off the rails. When the killer strikes close to home, Bree and Matt must race to solve the murders before one of their own becomes the next victim.

Wonderwoman strikes again!

Bree is painted as Superwoman in this third book of the series. She puts her life online constantly, even when injured, only to get injured again, while also arresting the culprit we never suspected.
This was full of surprises, although completely unbelievable!
But I enjoyed it... maybe as I enjoyed fairy tales as a child.
The narrator was fine as long as I used the 1.2 speed on Audible. 1.0 made it unbearable.

Good series

Easy to listen to although I’m not a huge fan of the main male character’s (Matt) voice. Enjoying the storyline of the series thus far.

Good Book …Bad Audio

The story was good but the audio was very poor. Matt’s voice was too quiet, requiring the volume to be turned up. Then the narration or another voice would be blasting loud. It took away from the enjoyment of the book.

Great characters and nice story

I'm liking the continuation of Bree Taggart and company. The performance this time was really off for me. The voice was hard to hear sometimes and then shouting at others and the charcter voice acting was just too much. For me, it needed to be toned down but others might like it.
From a story perspective it was pretty good. A couple of twists that I must admit I saw coming before the twist was introduced but I'm okay with that. It was well done. Good pace.

Love this series

This series has become on of my favourites, love the unpredictable story how your always guessing on what is going to happen next. My only fault with this series is the voice of some the the characters they sound so robotic. But overall I would definitely recommend the series to anyone who loves a good all around story.

Terrible volume

The range of volume in the reader’s voice made this book unpleasant and near impossible to listen to. The narrator’s voice was crazy loud, and Bree and Matt’s voices were whisper quiet. The pronunciation of “also” as “alt-so” made me crazy. Picky? Yes. But for $18.0O, I expect better.

love this series

I really enjoy Bree Taggart as a character and each crime is different yet there is always something slightly familiar about the criminals from one story to the next.
