Publisher's Summary

In Eastern Body, Western Mind, chakra authority Anodea Judith has brought a fresh approach to the yoga-based Eastern chakra system, adapting it to the Western framework of Jungian psychology, somatic therapy, childhood developmental theory, and metaphysics. This groundbreaking work in transpersonal psychology has been revised and redesigned for a more accessible presentation. Arranged schematically, the book uses the inherent structure of the chakra system as a map upon which to chart our Western understanding of individual development. Each chapter focuses on a single chakra, starting with a description of its characteristics, then exploring its particular childhood developmental patterns, traumas and abuses, and how to heal and maintain balance. Illuminated with personal anecdotes and case studies, Eastern Body, Western Mind seamlessly merges the East and West, science and philosophy, and psychology and spirituality into a compelling interpretation of the chakra system and its relevance for Westerners today.

Brilliant work, and read well.

I just briefly wanted to comment on the reviews that label the audiobook reader as "jerky" or robot-like. I own the actual book as well as this audiobook. The book contains all kinds of lists, illustrations, tables, etc in addition to the actual text. Plus, there are several quotes scattered throughout. This book is vast, deep, and engrossing, but at the same time very complex. I found that in order to get the absolute most out of this tome, I needed the actual book at my side while listening to the audio. This wasn't because of the reader, but more because of the complex nature of the content, and the form it takes. Together I am learning SO much. I can also see that this is a reference that I will be returning to again and again.

so much knowledge to take in!

I loved this book. I will only say it was a little hard to follow in some parts when it got a bit in depth. I feel like if I were actually reading it I would have absorbed more. I also wish that some of the lists at the beginning of chapters were given in PDF to reference to. But I know if I would have actually read this book it would have taken me months to finish! great resource!

Wonderful, Insightful, Relaxing

This audiobook is genuinely wonderful. There are great insights and connections waiting for you within. The narrators voice is soothing in my opinion; there have been many nights where I just fall asleep and wake up to it and let it play through my morning. Hope I’m retaining information as I sleep :-) I’ve listened to this many many times, starting at random points whenever I feel like it.

A lot to take in.

I had to tackle this in chunks over a long time. it deals with a lot of topics each individual may struggle with differently as they inevitably begin reviewing thier own life. Read it with and open mind, regardless of what you believe or think you will do with "all this eastern philosophy stuff". Lots of info and I'd recommend reading it as if taking a course in yourself

I have the physical copy. Which i will use to gofeeper and dk the suggested exercises.

I loved being able to listen to the book first to get the basic understanding of the concepts.

I will definetly read/listen to this again.

I would have loved if the chapters in the audiobook matched the sections in each chalter to find them easier.

Fantastic

This is a fantastic accumulation of how traumas effect the body, mind, and spirit and what you can do to Correct the negative implications so we can live a more full and happy life. I’m thankful I listened to another book about attachment theory prior to listening to this book. I would say this book is like a level 2. There’s a lot of information that helps us be compassionate to ourselves and other people.

Not for general knowledge

This is an interesting read but definitely not for the person wanting general knowledge about chakras, how they work, what they are, what is alignment... This book is for a beginner psychologist/therapist, someone who is looking to add this eastern consideration into their practice, not the general person starting to look at this practice and knowledge base. It becomes very overwhelming with information that has no relevance unless traumatized and abused in life, even then written more as a textbook. If that’s what you are looking for this is definitely the right book! Average person curiosity - no.
