About this listen

When two cross-country cases collide, Bree Taggert and Mercy Kilpatrick join forces to catch a serial killer in an addictive novel of suspense by bestselling authors Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot.

During a vicious heat wave, a county maintenance worker stumbles upon two suspicious suitcases abandoned by the side of the road. Sheriff Bree Taggert responds to find two bodies stuffed inside the luggage. The press demands action. The community is on edge. Suddenly, Bree is at the center of a media firestorm.

In Oregon, a senator’s daughter goes missing. FBI Special Agent Mercy Kilpatrick agrees to keep the politically sensitive case on the down-low. When she finds a link between the disappearance and a double homicide three thousand miles away, Mercy takes the next plane out—and lands right in the middle of Bree’s double homicide investigation.

To save the missing girl, Bree and Mercy must work together to stop a killer who’s playing deadly games with the press and stirring up public rage. Hungry for notoriety, he dares Bree and Mercy to catch him before he kills again.

What the critics say

“Grisly, gripping, and riveting. Two brilliant law enforcement pros join forces to hunt a twisted serial killer. Elliot and Leigh have created a page-turning, edge-of-your-seat thriller that kept me up late. I recommend!”—Robert Dugoni, New York Times bestselling author of the Tracy Crosswhite series

“One ruthless serial killer plus one FBI agent plus one homicide detective equals a propulsive game of cat-and-mouse that kept me glued to the page and checking my locks. Echo Road maps the darkness of a human heart and the light of female friendship.”—Tess Gerritsen, bestselling author of The Spy Coast

“What do you get when you pair up two genre masters? A double-barrel blast of crime fiction awesomeness.”—Lee Goldberg, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Two Stong Leads, Best Duo Ever

I have only read half of the Mercy Kilpatrick series, and am fully caught up on the Bree Taggert series. This books has a perfect mix of both characters, individual writing, and performances.

I highly recommend to anyone who's enjoyed either series. Even if you only read one series, you will still enjoyed this duo working together to solve this case.

I noticed both writers influences in this book, and it was a wonderful pair for sure. Although both series are similar in structure, the authors each have a unique writing style that work perfectly with eachother.

Most times I can guess the killer before Bree or Mercy have in the book, but this time I was actually surprised with the reveal.

I'm a little sad with how quickly I finished this book, but every chapter kept encouraging me to continue. I was so immersed in this book, I couldn't concentrate on anything else. I even sometimes felt the same emotions Bree or Mercy felt.

It was nice to see two strong leads overcome misogyny and stupidity. And be able to overcome their own setbacks and weaknesses. This book had two women supporting eachother, and working together without drama and fighting.
