Emily Monroe may be a lot of things, but one thing is for sure: She is not the Chosen One.

Emily is a normal girl working at Big Burger who has the unfortunate luck to look exactly like Big City's superhero darling, the Chosen One. It has been the bane of her existence, as it disrupts her life and the lives of those around her when supervillains come knocking, wanting to prove their mettle by fighting the Chosen One. Nobody listens when she insists she isn't who they think she is.

With common sense and years of rage built up inside, she usually serves their butts to them on a platter, asking, "Did you want fries with that?"

No cape required.

This is an incredibly short book - but it's a lot of fun packed into 107 minutes. There's a lot of sass, a lot of humour, and a lot of genre savvy writing. The main character is Emily Monroe, an orphaned university graduate stuck flipping burgers because she can't get hired anywhere else. Why not? Well, because a city full of supervillains all think she's the secret identity of The Chosen One, the premiere teenage superhero. Emily Monroe's life sucks. And yet she has a job, a friend for a roommate, a crush on a sexy superheroine, and her sense of humour. Watch out, world!

I waited for a sale and bought this for money rather than using a credit. I'm now waiting for the two sequels to go on sale...

Bite-sized fun!

Classic tropes balanced by my favorite kind of humour. I couldn’t stop smiling as I listened.

A funny superheroine story
