Publisher's Summary

When an experimental starship test goes horribly wrong, a scientist from Earth finds herself fighting for her survival, and her only lifeline is a wild, powerful alien king.

Waking on an alien world, wracked by pain, Dr. Poppy Ellison is confused and adrift…until his voice calls to her in the darkness. The big, wild, enthralling man reveals that she’s been infected and is turning into an alien shape-shifter. Poppy has always been smart, practical, and boring, but with her entire life turned upside down, there is no one she can trust…except for this alien wolf.

Emperor Brodin Damar Sarkany is king of Damar and its shape-shifters. As wild as the forest city they call home, the Damari can be volatile, always fighting to control the wolf inside. Brodin uses his immense strength to keep his people in check and protect them from the most dangerous evil of all—his war-mongering father. He can’t afford the distraction of a small, tantalizing woman from Earth, even when everything about Poppy sings to the instincts of both man and wolf.

As his father’s ruthless warlord attacks, innocent children are at risk, and Poppy knows she has to help by mastering her new, emerging abilities. She must also face the shocking passion that explodes between her and Brodin. But as Poppy and Brodin hunt down the enemy, they uncover a plot that could mean the destruction of all the Damari…if they don’t stop it in time.

Being an Emperors wouldn’t be so bad

Being an Emperors wouldn’t be so bad, though I’d definitely want Poppy”a gift. Love the customs and way of life, and Brodin is not only an alpha protective male but also has steamy and romantic sides. Poppy is not only sweet and caring but also extremely smart and definitely not a wall flower just waiting for her big strong man to protect her. Interesting danger they face and an interesting twist at the end. Another great story by Anne Hackett.

waste of time.

This was a decent story except until the end and poison that only affects the characters the author wants. I don't mean the poison that make the shifters go into a rage. I'm talking about the ones the evil warlord has on her claws and hair that kills a person in seconds when she stabs him with her claws. There is so much emphasizing about how dangerous and effective the poison the evil warlord uses but the hair just causes burns that the MC's ignore. The claw cuts and scratches are ignored as well. They just say they feel the poison but it doesn't actually do anything when a person died in seconds from it earlier in the book. Yes the person who died wasn't a wolf but the warlord is supposed to be a genius poison maker but they don't affect the enemy she is targeting??? I know I'm being a bit picky but everyone goes on and on about how dangerous the warlord is because of her genius and poisons but her only effective one at all is the new one she makes that can make the wolves go into a rage. The end when the evil father that is the cause many deaths and pain shows up to save the female MC killed the book for me. lets make the evil bad guy swoop in and be a hero... Worst idea ever... Minus 3 stars for that and 1 for the poison. Also the female MC not being able to fully shapeshift was another let down. I was waiting for a special moment when she does but it doesn't happen.
