A must read, if you wish to understand the world.
Smil breaks it down, in detail, the sources, uses, and realities of energy.
Importantly, he makes very real statements about the future of energy production that perhaps you don’t want to hear.

Highly technical analysis of energy
This book goes into great detail about all different types of energy, from the amount of energy we get from foods, to the energy produced by power generation and even the amount of energy used to produce many common items. It also goes through the energy production and consumption throughout history.
It's very eye opening to understand the raw energy differences between compatible sources, but it's also rather difficult to take it all in over audio. If you're really into a technical analysis, I'd recommend getting a paper version of this book. If you're looking for an overview, the audio book does an ok job, but it is highly technical with a lot of numbers to keep track of, which is a bit weird to listen to.
