Das erste Mal, dass ich Beethoven sah, war in meinen Knabenjahren - es mochte in den Jahren 1804 oder 5 gewesen sein - und zwar bei einer musikalischen Abendunterhaltung im Hause meines Onkels, Joseph Sonnleithner, damaligen Gesellschafters einer Kunst- und Musikalienhandlung in Wien. Außer Beethoven befanden sich noch Cherubini und Abbé Vogler unter den Anwesenden.
