Publisher's Summary

A grieving father and husband. A search for understanding. How can a suffering soul find meaning and peace?

First-time dad Daryl Potter never felt joy so deep. Then one week after his daughter’s birth, a devastating series of medical emergencies threatened the lives of both his wife and daughter and that innocent joy was gone forever.

Daryl’s initial inability to find help in the Bible’s key book on suffering shook his trust in God. What followed was a desperate quest to find something in the story of Job’s trials that could help him or he risked giving up on faith altogether. The search that followed lasted over twenty years.

Does Job’s ancient poem have the power to repair a wounded heart? Can a life dismantled and hope destroyed ever be restored?

In this intimate and honest account, one man wrestles with deepening his perspective of God in the context of suffering. Comprehensive Biblical commentary is interwoven with Daryl’s deeply personal narrative. He offers those experiencing hardship a path to surviving life’s challenges. It is a path that creates a rich understanding of the one who is God of even the monsters.

Even the Monsters. Living with Grief, Loss, and Depression—A Journey Through the Book of Job is a must-have resource for those going through tough times. If you like relatable experiences, in-depth Bible interpretation, unflinching quests for the truth, and real-life application of God’s Word, then you’ll be moved by Daryl Potter’s meaningful and emotional account.

Best audio book on Job, excellent must listen!

A must read for all dealing with depression, loss, grief, suffering, despair, family alienation, and any kind of fall from grace who seek Gods presence, power, purpose and clarity! It’s also so helpful for those trying to comfort others and support them in their trials. Bravo to the author Daryl Potter! He displays through this work that he is a rare blend of genuine disciple of Christ, loving wounded father, gifted writer, diligent theological researcher, straightforward gut level communicator, authentic biblical scholar and courageous storyteller.

This second edition is a uniquely accessible exploration of and exposition of Job the foundational hero of ancient times, and one of the key foundations of the scriptures and any meaningful relationship with YHWY.

Daryl’s personal journey is compellingly interwoven with Jobs and provides a counterpoint and contemporary example of the struggle of seeking answers from God in the face of intense adversity. Over 20 years of research and soul searching has borne marvellous fruit in this 2nd edition a tour de force!

As a Christian, professional counsellor myself and one who has dealt with chronic depression for many years personally as well as professionally as well as the loss of 2 marriages and 3 children I can deeply appreciate the depth of insight, the pathos, powerful encouragement and resounding revelations of love that pour forth from this book. The gentle, kind way that Daryl unearths and polishes this gem of a book so that one can be comforted and illuminated by the Son light that shines through it is inspiring.

God accomplishes much through the book of Job but for many it is tarnished (by overly complicated commentary, poor theology, incomplete research or lack of personal connection to the subject matter) and too often this book is under read and under-appreciated for all its glorious truths. It’s my sincere hope that this work greatly benefits Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and people of all persuasions who seek out true wisdom offered freely. I just purchased 5 copies to share with friends and family and as funds allow will continue to share this excellent resource with as many as I can!

God bless you Daryl for all your hard work to write this resource and the courage to share it and live for Christ in all your struggles. Your writing has uplifted so many and demonstrates the triumph of love over despair and truth over doubt and personal relationship over religiosity. Thanks be to God for your gift!
