Publisher's Summary

Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie and The Thursday Murder Club in this “utterly original” (Jane Harper), “not to be missed” (Karin Slaughter), fiendishly clever blend of classic and modern murder mystery.

“A witty twist on classic whodunits… Stevenson not only 'plays fair,' he plays the mystery game very, very well.”—Maureen Corrigan, Washington Post

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.

I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Have I killed someone? Yes. I have.

Who was it?

Let’s get started.

Twists and Turns Galore

Such a good book!
As a person with ADHD the way this book was written and narrated was absolutely amazing!
Some of the twists I saw coming and some completely blindsided me!
I'm new to this author, but cannot wait to try something else from his library!

Neat.

Interesting format. Kept me listening but wish I’d played along more and wrote down what he’d said near the beginning on timeline, just for fun.

Unique, kept me guessing

It stands out for the broken 4th wall, enjoyed the pace and plot. Will definitely look for another novel by this author.

Murder mystery with a twist.

I found the beginning was a little slow but once it started I was pulled right into it.

So many surprise twists

I loved how the narrator made it feel like you were just hanging out with a friend who was telling you another story about their crazy family. I didn’t expect most of the twists and my jaw literally dropped when we found out who Green Boots was. Highly recommend this funny book

A witty ride

I enjoyed this clever meta murder mystery, it was fun. Crazy! And the body count is obviously high (the title gives that away). However I think it breaks one of its own rules of writing mysteries— or perhaps they think they can get away with it on a technicality. It’s super minor but I’m not saying anything else 🤐

Every moment was interesting

I’ve consumed a lot of crime story content and the one thing I enjoy the most is when someone is able to tell an enticing story, without lying or withholding evidence to keep me from guessing the plot before the end. This story was able to tell everything as the teller knew it without spoiling everything. I did guess who the killer was within a chapter of their introduction, but I didn’t know who they actually were until a few chapters before the big reveal.
I will definitely listen to this audiobook again sometime, and recommend it to friends.
