Publisher's Summary

When a mission ends in disaster—there is no way to achieve the objective, no way to regroup and try again, no plan B, no hope—all you can do is fall back into FAILURE MODE and try to salvage whatever you can.

...if it is even possible to save anything, or anyone.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight.

Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Another great audio book and performance

This one mostly follows one story line and the main 2 characters. Is this the conclusion book? There are still many paths that story can continue towards, hopefully there will be more books to follow.

Pure Awesomeness

I can't do a full proper review at this time, I don't want to risk spoiling this great read, I just finished the book. I have to say I never expected as a grown man to get emotional and almost cry while listening to this series. Great performance by RC Bray, and stellar writing by Craig Alanson.

If you have a fondness for scifi you will absolutely love this series. I can't wait for the next book. I hope it won't be too long. I mean there could be a sequel to Convergence soon I hope as well.

Great ending to an amazing series

great ending to this amazing series. I was satisfied but wish they did one more book to tell us what happened after as there were still a few lose ends.

Solid Conclusion

Major plot points happen quite quickly toward the end of the story, but the conclusion is satisfying.

No ending

It felt like it was missing the ending. Book just ends abruptly. There was no closing. There are too many unanswered questions. Very poor way to end an excellent series.

I needed more character development

Like other listeners, I went back to Columbus Day and listened to books 1 to 14 in order because I wanted to fill in my memory blanks. In doing so, I rediscovered the unfolding story arc and realised that Alanson must have planned the story arc in careful detail before he started on the subsequent books. Good for him. That is an intelligent thing to do, especially if one plans to write a series. He must have done the same with Skippy's and Bishop's character arcs. Over the breadth of the books, we can see the characters growing and maturing. So where is this blah blah blah going, you ask?

If one has the luxury of creating such a broad story arc, I would have liked to have seen the secondary characters develop along their arcs. Jeniffer Sims, for example, plays a massive role in the stories, but we don't experience her angst in her interaction with Bishop. Jennifer is lied to, misled, and excluded from vital information that, as the XO she should have been party to. Yet beyond some brief dialogue and raised eyebrows and frowns, Jennifer goes along with much of it. Too much of it. The relationship between a captain and an XO is like a marriage. Without trust in each other, you have nothing.

At some point in the story arc, this lack of trust should have resulted in an inciting incident, a crisis where trust, betrayal of trust or lack of it should have led to a confrontation or clash that threatens the ship or crew or the mission. In short, less blah blah blah between Skippy and Bishop and more character growth and interaction ..... perhaps in the future books in the series.
