Publisher's Summary

"A treasure trove of myths and terror… Atmospheric as hell… Immersive."-The Times

Based on the podcast with over one hundred million downloads, Fall of Civilizations brilliantly explores how a range of ancient societies rose to power and sophistication, and how they tipped over into collapse.

Across the centuries, we journey from the great empires of Mesopotamia to those of Khmer and Vijayanagara in Asia and Songhai in West Africa; from Byzantium to the Maya, Inca and Aztecs of Central America; from Roman Britain to Rapa Nui. With meticulous research, breathtaking insight and dazzling, empathic storytelling, historian and novelist Paul Cooper evokes the majesty and jeopardy of these ancient civilizations, and asks what it might have felt like for a person alive at the time to witness the end of their world.

Great Glimpses at Early Civilizations! A MUST for ANY History Nerd…

Paul Cooper has done it again! This is the only Audiobook that I have ever spent a credit on Pre-Order. Those familiar with his Podcast and Video Accompaniment Channel of the same name on YouTube will be familiar with the stories and history being told. If you haven’t, it is a MUST view and will give you even more appreciation for the Author and the beauty and poetic telling and reliving of these past gone societies. This book is both cathartic and enigmatic. Narration is Perfect.

Those who don’t know history will be doomed to repeat it….

And, Paul Cooper shows that with lots of detail and really send the reader back in time to really experience the Rise and Fall of several different human societies and cultures.

Just Trust me on this one…

(Now, if only I could get my hand on a signed copy of this book…)

Amazing

An exploration of the history of empires and the causes of their collapse told in a very compelling story format. The author makes these civilizations and important characters come alive and shares their stories in a way that kept my attention from beginning to end.

A great listen.

A great listen for a peak into the past. A collection of stories from the podcast of the same name, but a touch more approachable.

More storytelling than analysis

I prefer Thucydides to Herodotus, so this wasn’t precisely what I’d been hoping for. Decent, though.
