About this listen
This vampire has a sweet tooth - two of ‘em.
Priscilla Pratt is 377 years old, give or take a decade. She’s the best baker in Bellmare, Massachusetts, and just wants to continue to lead a quiet life in the quaint and haunted tourist destination. Not even an elaborate, last-minute wedding cake commission - a multi-tiered fondant replica of Dracula’s castle - could be a stake in her side.
But when the bride turns up dead hours before the wedding, Priscilla and her pastries are the first to be suspected. Priscilla will have to get to the bottom of this frosting-laden murder, or her business and reputation will be six feet under.
Fangs in Fondant is the first audiobook in a new paranormal cozy mystery series. This novel is quirky, fun, and deliciously decadent!

A promising new series
Seeing as this was my first time reading a paranormal-themed cozy mystery, I was slightly unsure of what to expect in terms of my enjoyment levels. As luck would have it, I need not have worried as I was thoroughly satisfied by my experience.
First off, let me state that for the first couple of chapters, I wasn’t totally captivated by the plot; there was something about the storyline that didn’t entirely capture my interest. However, after I pushed through the first little bit (and adjusted to the main character being a vampire), I found that I soon became caught up in what was happening and was unable to put the book down.
As for the characters, it took time to adjust to the vampire aspect of the story. However, I quite enjoyed having a 300+-year-old Vampire who had spanned centuries adjusting to modern life as the main protagonist. I felt that it added an interesting dynamic to the story; one that I hadn’t encountered before in a cozy mystery.
With that in mind, my one complaint in the character department is that I did find Priscilla's friend Olivia to be slightly irrational at certain moments, but it was not enough of a bother to dissuade me from continuing onward.
Finally, in regards to the audiobook, I felt the narration was decent; there was some differentiation between characters. However, I felt that there wasn't enough of a range to make it a higher rated performance. However, for a new narrator, I believe that Cindy Kay shows potential.
Overall, Fangs in Fondant is a promising first installment in the Priscilla Pratt Series. I thoroughly enjoyed the slight diversion from my usual cozy mystery and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to others. I will absolutely check out more of Priscilla's Vampire adventures in the future.
