Destiny.... Charlie Boone's will be found on a cross country trip with a complete stranger, but why?
Jake Mott, an ex-con convicted of murder, and Charlie Boone, a city bus driver on the brink of insanity, are complete strangers; however, when their worlds collide, both of their lives are forever changed.
Born the son of a schizophrenic woman, Charlie lives in his boyhood home with his wife and two kids, caring for his sick mother. Tormented by unsettling dreams and frightening visions since childhood, the thought that he shares the same affliction as her is beginning to look like a reality.
Having spent the last three decades in prison, Jake is planning a trip to California to reclaim a bag of money he buried thirty years ago, and he's making the trip alone...or so he thinks.
Together they embark on an epic journey of hope and redemption, but only one will live to tell about it.
Fans of Stephen King, Cormac McCarthy, John Irving will love this gripping suspense thriller filled with an amazing plot, extraordinary characters, and insight into two troubled souls.

Stay with it - it’s worth it!
It took a couple of chapters for me to get into this story, but it really drew me in and held me completely until the very emotional end.
The two main characters could not be more different, and yet in many ways they are alike, and both are seeking redemption of some kind. They embark on a road trip and slowly build a bond through their diverse but similar pasts while gnawing at each other just because they are so different. McGroarty’s development of each character is masterful and we find ourselves completely onboard for the ride.
As their quest begins to reach its conclusion, there is a moment when one of the characters finds the peace he has been seeking for his entire life. It is really a beautiful moment, well written and incredibly evocative. It is clear this author has written this story as a labour of love.
I was deeply moved in the final chapter when one of the characters addresses a child with such clear love and emotion, that it could only have come from finding the peace and calm he has always been seeking.
I recommend this audiobook without reservation. The author has developed his characters with much thought and empathy.
The narrator, Francis G. Kearney, provides a performance equal to the author’s tale. His calm resonant voice treats each sentence with the respect due to such an intense story. He is very capable of evoking the author’s emotions through the characters. I found his narration to blend perfectly with the story, to the point that I was completely immersed in his voice.
Overall, this is a fine audiobook; a story well written and well told.
