Mostly about Amy

I prefer narratives from the perspective of the sensitive and observant Miss Read character, whereas this novel is dominated by her insensitive, unobservant, childhood friend Amy.

The plot might be the source of comedy, except that the narrator is so loyal to her rich, abrasive, married friend, she never ventures any irony.

Poor Miss Read endures a lot of criticism from this woman, I was hoping she'd at least once respond with, "I work full time, remember?!" - unlike her friend who doesn't even clean her own house. Not sure what the author intended with this one.
