About this listen

Fatty Batter is the story of one man's lifelong obsession with cricket. From his earliest awkward days as a fat schoolboy, to his years running a team of dysfunctional inadequates, cricket has offered Michael Simkins a shelter from life's irksome realities and a place in which to quietly dream.

That place is a peculiarly English arcadia of occasional wondrous beauty, forests of comforting statistics, and the endless life-affirming rituals of defeat, humiliation, and disappointment - the perfect net practise for life.

A wonderful book for cricket fans everywhere.

I read the book many years ago and found it a marvelous reminder of why cricket is such an amazing game that you dont play so much as you experience.. It has remained one of my favourite sporting books.
It is very well written and hilariouly funny. Anybody who played cricket as a kid will find themselves nodding in agreement at many of Simkins' stories about the game.
He reads the audio book with great talent - making it even funnier. Be careful if listening while driving ... laughing fits could cause you to lose focus on the road!
Highly recommended.
