About this listen

Milling: filters out the useless!

It constantly forces you to deal with pressure!

The tendency is to rely and act on gross motor skills. You want to be able to distance yourself from the source of danger; strike, pick up something, and if necessary, run! The effects of adrenaline; the body tenses up, breathing becomes heavier and fine motor skills diminish.

Pressure changes everything! Techniques; similar in motion, simple and direct gross motor skills over fine motor skills. The mill urges intensity over extensity. Better to develop a few simple techniques than to learn many; that is mere theory vs proven. The mill demonstrates and teaches you what works best for you.

Circuit training:

Integrated throughout the mill; to test and build; cardio, strength and stamina. You start with running in place, to burpees, followed by push-ups, sit-ups and squats. As time progresses, the sets get longer, and tension elements and isometrics get introduced. Feeling the burn, you are gradually operating at less than full capacity; this is when you get thrown into the mill. Now you are simulating a live situation and the effects of adrenaline, facing an attacker who is not intent on giving you a chance to practise but ready to resist. The more you practise this way, you will build your resistance levels, training to do more with less!

Efforts are taken to disorientate the student by having them spin in a location until they get dizzy and immediately confront them. All done to gauge the student's responses and levels of resistance. This also simulates getting blindsided, hit first, then expected to defend yourself.

This method embodies the no hypocrisy rule! It is here and now; it works, or it doesn't. The mill, when examined under the watchful eye of an instructor, will tell you why a particular technique was ineffective; and have you define and refine it; to make it work. The mill is engaging and forces you to adjust and adapt constantly.
