About this listen

Polly has two sets of memories....

One is normal: school, home, friends. The other, stranger memories begin nine years ago, when she was 10 and gate-crashed an odd funeral in the mansion near her grandmother's house. Polly's just beginning to recall the sometimes marvelous, sometimes frightening adventures she embarked on with Tom Lynn after that. And then she did something terrible, and everything changed.

But what did she do? Why can't she remember? Polly must uncover the secret, or her true love - and perhaps Polly herself - will be lost.

Splendid

I'm extremely fond of Diana Wynne Jones's work, and of this story in particular. I've read it several times and I really enjoyed listening to it this time. I thought the reader was quite good although a few times I did think she didn't quite realize what she was about to say and it came out a little odd. The story does have some remarkable twists and turns.

Content warning: grooming

I love Diana Wynne Jones books but this one was very disappointing. The plot is quite confusing at times and the conclusion is hard to understand and visualize in my opinion. Also the main story line is a grown man becoming very close friends with a 10 year old girl and not to spoil anything but if that's raising some red flags of grooming behavior, yeah... I hoped I was being overly sensitive but no, it goes the way I was worried it would
