Publisher's Summary

On Australia's hottest beach, the most dangerous current is between them.

Training to be a lifeguard is tough work, but Cody Grant loves a challenge. He spends long days in the sun and surf rescuing swimmers from treacherous rip currents while trying not to lust after senior lifeguard Liam Fox - who is deeply, painfully closeted.

Liam was supposed to be a football legend. Now in his mid-30s, it's been over a decade since his dream shattered along with his knee. Fans still recognize him regularly, and he's terrified his sexuality will be discovered and his conservative parents will reject him. He has strict rules to protect his secret and keeps everyone at arm's length.

Out and proud Cody fascinates Liam - and tempts him to break all the rules.

Cody is practically half Liam's size and age, but has the confidence and compassion to take charge and give Liam the release, affection, and acceptance he desperately craves. But how long can a secret affair satisfy their hearts? As if saving lives isn't hard enough, Cody faces his greatest challenge yet convincing Liam to trust him and find the courage to live out loud.

Contains mature themes.

Great story

Was a great listen. Definitely worth the time. Loved hearing about another couple from a different story .

Good story

I love the Australian romance books! I would also listen to Joel Leslie read the phone book (if such a thing still existed). His talent for accents is incredible. The only comment I have is that while the Canadian accent was pretty good, it was sometimes more that of Atlantic Canada than the Pacific North West. but awesome as usual.

Awesome Aussie adventure and romance

4.25/5 I’m not usually a huge fan of books where one or more of the MCs is in the closet. I wind up like Cody, trying to be sympathetic but getting a bit impatient, lol. I usually find it depressing, and while I know it’s a reality many people face, it’s not generally what I want to read about. In this case, though, my frustration was tempered by how viscerally I could feel Liam’s fear. He is a mess, not to put too fine a point on it, and whether or not I agree with his assessment, it’s impossible not to understand the emotions behind his hesitation (and to see all the homophobia he’s internalised).

I enjoyed the contrast between Cody and Liam and their outlooks on life. I appreciated that Cody being smaller and younger didn’t dictate his behaviour and preferences. Although there’s still plenty of fear and worry on Liam’s part, the way he gets to be himself with Cody is pretty awesome. I enjoyed learning about life guarding and getting to know everyone on Barking Beach. (And I loved that cameo by Ethan and Clay! Now I’m going to go reread Honeymoon for One again, lol.)

I liked how supportive Cody was from beginning to end (with a moment here and there of frustration and fear), and I loved when Liam got to support him in return at the end. The team is really awesome. I’m definitely delighted to imagine these two with their hard-earned HEA.

compelling

I have already read this one as an ebook, so was mostly listening to it when trying to fall asleep and doing activities but it is such a compelling story that I ended up listening to it almost straight through.
