About this listen

First rule of being a nanny? Don’t fall for the single dad, even if he is smoking hot.

But that’s exactly what happens when grumpy small-town sheriff Asher Whitlock reluctantly hires me to take care of his daughter for the summer. Neither of us is thrilled with the arrangement, but he’s desperate for help, and I need the money for grad school this fall.

All we need to do is keep our distance and remain professional. Turns out, that’s easier said than done.

Instead of focusing on my future, all I see is the strong jawline, crystal-blue eyes, and rock-hard body right in front of me. We try to resist each other, but we end up crossing every line until I’m in his bed.

I tell myself it’s just this once.

Okay, twice.

All right, every night.

But it’s got to end–he’s 14 years older than me, with a kid and a stressful job. Have I mentioned my dad is his boss? Then, there’s the past I’m trying to forget. Secrets aren’t easy to keep, and mine are getting too big to hide.

Walking away is never simple, but when I do, I can’t look back.

Even if it means leaving behind the man I was never meant to love.

4/5 STARS 4/5 SPICE

Forbidden Hearts - Corinne Michaels
3/5 STARS 4/5 SPICE

Okay, so three stars? Only because of the ending. Now it’s really hard not to spoil this book because the whole certain part I didn’t like is the spoiler. So I’ll try and explain without spoiling. The book starts off with Phoebe's life falling apart. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. She had been secretly hooking up with her professor. Who lied and manipulated her. She had no idea he was married with a kid. Anyway, the two of them get caught. And she can’t handle the backlash at school so she leaves early. She was in her first year of grad school to work somewhere in the field of audiology. So she leaves school and moves back home. Her dad the chief of police is immediately suspicious of her leaving but she explains that she was able to finish online. Then the leader of his SWAT team calls. His nanny fell through and he can’t go to work. But the chief really needs him. So they agree that Phoebe will help the nanny in the meantime. However!!!! Phoebe and this SWAT team leader have a history of sorts. She babysat for him before. And his sweet daughter cut off all her hair….PAUSE so the SWAT team leader is this sexy cop named Asher, he has a nine-year-old daughter who is deaf. She is able to communicate through ASL and some lip reading. And boom Phoebe is fluent in ASL, loves kids and dreams of working in audiology to help people with hearing impairment. So perfect match up! But Phoebe is stubborn and heartbroken. Asher is grumpy and way too sexy for his own good. It’s so good! Of course, this is a small-town nanny x grumpy cop romance. Age gap! How could it be more perfect? Now reasons why this wasn’t a 5-star for me. The ending. I didn’t like the way certain things were revealed and connected. It felt fake to me. It was sweet how devoted Asher was but for me, it was a bit much. I don’t think this took away from the story it’s just not my perfect ending.

The spice was spicing. I’d give it a four for frequency but it was out of this world. The chemistry at the start got me but towards the end it was repetitive. The voice actors were convincing.

I listened to this through audible and the audiobook was so good!!!! The actors got the roles perfectly! I found the story to be vivid and addicting. I could see all of them signing to each other and it was precious! This book did in my opinion a great job of showing how a family works to support their child with hearing impairment. We see the struggles that Olivia faces and how she is an amazing child who is no different from any other. This is actually I really well-written child. I babysat A LOT growing up and even did nanny gigs. To me, this was a real nine-year-old child.

This review is beyond long but I wanted to include this. My brother is deaf. Growing up I went to appointments constantly and this book was so real. I can remember him having appointments for speech therapy, hearing aids and moulds, new devices for the classroom, Educational Assistants, microphones for teachers, Bluetooth phones, tubes, and puppet shows with all kinds of noises. I didn’t think much of it as a kid but looking back he missed school for this and connecting to others wasn’t always perfect. It was extremely sweet to see real representation in such a bright way. I’d say a big thumbs up to Corinne Michaels for creating a story that shared a real experience rather than what she wanted. If that makes sense.

Absolutely a hit

What a great kick off to a series. I absolutely loved the storyline and Asher & Phoebe as characters. It was both predictable at times yet so unpredictable. I can’t wait to watch their story unfold more and see where the other brothers and sisters of the Whitlock family go!

Love love LOVE

Corinne Michaels paints the whole picture and includes every little detail. Picturing the characters talking while doing ASL made my heart swell. I couldn’t stop listening and the narrating voices were perfect. With every book I think she can’t outdo herself and yet she does.

I was fine...

.... but no more than fine. I am in a pretty stressful pass right now and I try to pick up titles that should not make me anxious. This filled the bill, but it was a little flat.
The two narrators were very good.

mundane romance

I was expecting something with a bit heft, (looking at the other reviews.) Narration was good, the story was a bit "meh".
