About this listen

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

Epic!!

The voice actors were incredible! I’d read the story prior to listening and knew I wanted to listen to the dramatized adaptation after doing the same process with the ACOTAR series.

I’m so glad I did and I can’t wait for part 2!!!!!

Xadens voice was *chef’s kiss*

This was a cinematic adventure! Definitely worth the 2 credits (part 1 and 2). Whoever voices Xaden should definitely voice Rhys!! Cannot wait for the Iron Flame and Onyx Storm adaptations, just take my money

10/10

the starting slow burn released like a bag of bricks being flung off the top of a building. Well written and addicting.

Binge-able! Only 1 tiny complaint

TLDR: love it!! My complaints are: corny amount of multiple orgasms, too obvious with foreshadowing at times, voice actor for male lead doesn’t match the style of other characters and doesn’t suit the character he is playing.

I enjoyed almost everything about this story and the performance. The characters are all interesting and feel well developed. The story was captivating and even during the world/character building periods did not feel dry or difficult to get through. Lots of action and excitement but it was balanced with interpersonal details so there still is depth. It’s pretty smutty but still romantic. The amount of smut doesn’t feel unrealistic or forced for the sake of smut. The amount/intensity of smut scenes suits the characters and fits into everything else that’s happening. The smut isn’t too corny, except for the extreme amount of multiple orgasms. A few is fine but there seem to be a few too many orgasms during one session… I already get it that the sex is good. Good sex only needs one or two orgasms though… maybe not even one. I’d even forgive 3. More than that becomes a bit ridiculous. Some people really do experience that but it is rare and the way it is portrayed in this story seems over-dramatic.
I also have 2 more small complaints. One has to do with the storytelling, and the other is with the performance.
The book is for young adults, so it is forgivable. I just feel personally annoyed when certain parts of the plot are over-explained. I won’t spoil anything but they really drive certain plot points home after it should have been plenty obvious. I get if they don’t expect you to notice (even very obvious) foreshadowing and they present the reveal dramatically. However when they’ve already told us and they keep telling us just to make sure I feel like my intelligence has been slightly insulted. Not really haha but I’m like okay, okay, get on with it.
My issue with the performance is only with the actor who is playing Xaden. Maybe this is just my personal taste, but I don’t think the actor suits the character Xaden. He sounds too old and his style doesn’t seem to match the style used by actors playing the rest of the characters. Everyone else seems to have a down to earth, casual style. Then you hear the over-dramatic voice of Xaden come in and I feel a sense of incongruence. He sounds a bit awkward. His voice is too formal, deep, and aggressive. The way he speaks doesn’t sound realistic to how a person in their early 20s would talk and doesn’t seem to suit how I imagine Xaden. It is especially weird during romantic scenes when he almost sounds like he is growling all the time. Again, maybe this is just my opinion but there you go.

Tairns Voice

I love this book so much reading it and now listening to the dramatized version i knew i’d do it as i did with acotor how ever i always read it with Tairns voice being much deeper and almost raspy or like had a lot of power behind it and i didn’t feel as though the actor in this one properly projected the beast and his strength

My favourite romantacy book!

I absolutely love this story. It’s my favourite so far. Lost of variety, excitement and world building. The right amount of events, spice and action to keep me entertained! The dramatized version makes keeping track of each character much easier. I listened to both versions. Dramatized is a nice treat.

Heart wrenching

It’s such an awesome series, and a different concept in fantasy romance. Highly recommend, especially if you love enemies to lovers stories

Great cast, voice matches characters so well.

Love the cast. I’m so glad they went with a younger sounding voice for Violet it suits her perfectly. Thank you for not letting the fans down. Highly recommended.

Absolutely loved!

I loved the whole experience. The book had a great story and did well with building characters. The Dramatic version really enhances the experience and feel like your listening to a movie.
