About this listen

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Yarros

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

My new favourite audio book

There’s a few audiobooks I listen to over and over because the narrator(s) capture the novels I love so well. This is now my new favourite. So well acted and produced and every voice fit so perfectly with the ideas I had in my head from my first read. Will definitely have this and part 1 on repeat. Highly recommend. Almost better than TV :)

great book, but also cringe

I have read a lot of great reviews for the dramatic audio, and so I should preface this by saying I may really be in the minority here, but wowee I could not get through the intimate scenes with dramatic audio. There is panting, moaning, and...was that the sound of their bodies hitting the wall?! I think I made it to Xaden's 2nd gruntygrowl before I was in a panic skipping the scene. I'm no stranger to smutty fiction, and I've got no issue with movie scenes of this sort, so this is not me being overwhelmingly prudish (I don't think?) I just could NOT handle the sound effects in an audiobook. It was also very apparent that these were people trying to sound sexy, which seems to be my undoing in the cringe department. Again, I'm probably in the minority here, but in case you too are sensitive to voices and romantic cringe - I 100% wish I had purchased the 1 credit normal reading. Other than the intimate scenes, and Andarna sounding like a My Little Pony, loved it.

Incredible, it actually felt like a movie

Performance was great. Voices for all of the characters especially Xayden were very well done. Can’t wait for more in this series.

Tairn's voice is much better

Okay so everyone who has already heard part 1, the main drawback that had the majority of us wincing was the voice actor for Tairn. The voice did not match the description in the book. Other people also had some issues with other voices but I think we all agree that it wasn't that bad, but Tairn's voice was just plain awful. Super glad to say that the actor and director took note and made his voice sounding deeper for part 2. It matches the description better compared to part 1.

This is my Roman Empire

I cannot get over how great this production was.
This wrecked me emotionally and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed anything so much. Every aspect was pure perfection and I will rave about it forever. Thank you!

Great story, great acting. The only thing is the noises they make while kissing was a bit much it made me laugh.

Omg

The male narrator's voice is simply toe curling 😅
The story is fascinating and the atmosphere behind the voices are simply amazing. This is proving to be a completely new audiobook experience!
