About this listen
Kris Bjornsen is captured in Denver on her way to her college classes and wakes up on the primitive planet Barevi. Courageous and resourceful, she manages a single-woman escape from the Catteni and is living in the wilds of the planet when she comes to the aid of a Catteni soldier pursued by his own ranks.
Recaptured together, they join forces with other slaves to outwit their captors and a hostile planetary environment.
Listeners will delight in this "against-the-odds" story of survival, ingenuity and romance.
As her audience has come to expect of McCaffrey, she delivers a rich and intricate science-fiction adventure in Freedom's Landing, sure to win over even more listeners and add to her legions of fans.

Story
Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually easy. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

Story
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

Story
Young Kindan has no expectations other than joining his father in the mines of Camp Natalon, a coal mining settlement struggling to turn a profit far from the great Holds where the presence of dragons and their riders means safety and civilization. Mining is fraught with danger. Fortunately, the camp has a watch-wher, a creature distantly related to dragons and uniquely suited to specialized work in the dark, cold mineshafts.

Anne McCaffrey does it again!
I do like all of Anne McCaffrey's worlds and stories. Once again she has not disappointed. The characters are all three dimensional - some I like, others I don't - but that is how it should be! The production value of this recording is also very good. I have listened to this one at least 4 times since I first bought it. Will keep coming back, because of the quality of the story and the production of the recording. #Audible1 - this is definitely one to listen to.
