About this listen
The silver flash of airplane wings just above the treetops caught her eye. At the same time, her ears were assaulted by the shriek of high-powered jet engines. The creatures, flying in pairs, soon disappeared from sight.
The little five year- old girl ran in delight and excitement into the farm house. “Granny, Granny! I just saw two airplanes. They are so beautiful. I could even see the pilot’s face as he turned. I want to fly! Can I Granny? Can I?”
This memory and many more flyovers by the Korean War-era F86D Saber Jets never left her. One day, I will fly. Linda Pool went on with her life, taking high school, college and marriage all in stride. Then, one day, it happened. An old pilot looked at her and smiled when she said, “I’ve always wanted to fly.”
“Well, why not?” he said as he shook her hand. “I can get you an airplane ride with my buddy. Let’s make your dream come true.”
