Publisher's Summary

An enchanting short story from Madeline Miller that boldly reimagines the myth of Galatea and Pygmalion, now in audio for the first time

**Performed by Ruth Wilson and featuring an afterword by Madeline Miller**

In ancient Greece, a skilled marble sculptor has been blessed by a goddess who has given his masterpiece—the most beautiful woman the town has ever seen—the gift of life. After marrying her, he expects Galatea to please him, to be obedience and humility personified. But she has desires of her own and yearns for independence.

In a desperate bid by her obsessive husband to keep her under control, Galatea is locked away under the constant supervision of doctors and nurses. But with a daughter to rescue, she is determined to break free, whatever the cost . . . With a spellbinding performance by Ruth Wilson (His Dark Materials, The Affair), step back into Madeline Miller's mythic world.

Wish it were longer

For 99 cents, this short book was great. The narrator does a fine job and the story is Madeline Miller in spades. Because it is so short, I would not use a credit or pay full price. If it comes on sale again for 99 cents, I suggest you snap it up.

Why spoil it with indecent language?

I really was looking forward to listening to this book with my 12 and 14 year old daughters, on our way school and back. The readers voice is perfect for storytelling and I’m trying to develop the gift of storytelling in one of my girls.

Just as we were getting to get the premise of the story, there came the indecent and totally shocking words. It was totally unnecessary and a shame. It seems no book regardless of the genre is written without such limited descriptive words these days.

What a shame, God help the future generation.

Who is writing great literature for the future generations, who is inspiring them to think creatively even when expressing the shocking scenario when a doctor and his nurse are entwined in a clandestine forbidden dance?

Please, Madeline I think you can do better.
