About this listen

Brian Clegg was always fascinated by Isaac Asimov’s classic Foundation series of books, in which the future is predicted using sophisticated mathematical modeling of human psychology and behavior. Only much later did he realize that Asimov’s "psychohistory" had a real-world equivalent: game theory.

Originating in the study of probabilistic gambling games that depend on a random source—the throw of a dice or the toss of a coin—game theory soon came to be applied to human interactions: essentially, what was the best strategy to win whatever you were doing? Its mathematical techniques have been applied, with varying degrees of wisdom, to fields such as economics, evolution, and questions such as how to win a nuclear war. Clegg delves into game theory’s colorful history and significant findings and shows what we can all learn from this oft-misunderstood field of study.

Material needed good read

It would help if pdf were included with related diagram. I had to get addition material elsewhere to understand concepts. A great first set.

Enjoyed the author. Buy the Kindle instead.

The audible version of this book would be greatly improved by including a PDF of the formulas, figures and tables. Too often the audiobook is reading out a mathematically formula which is practically unintelligible when described. Or it refers to a table that cannot be seen.

I feel bad for the author because the lack of the PDF in the audible version ruins what appears to be a very nice introduction to game theory. If I had bought and read the Kindle or paperback version I am sure my rating would have been much higher.

The extra frustration is that the Kindle version costs one quarter the cost of the audiobook. Include a PDF and make this a four or five star rating.
