About this listen

A groundbreaking, “lavishly informative” (The New York Times) portrait of the six generations that currently live in the United States and how they connect, conflict, and compete with one another—from the acclaimed author of Generation Me and iGen.

Upending the conventional theory that generational differences are caused by major events, Dr. Jean Twenge analyzes data on 39 million people from robust national surveys—some going back nearly a century—to show that changes in technology are the underlying driver of each generation’s unique makeup. In this revelatory work, Twenge outlines key shifts in attitudes and lifestyle choices that define each generation regarding gender, income, politics, race, sexuality, marriage, mental health, and much more.

Surprising, engaging, and informative, Generations “gets you thinking about how appreciating generational differences can, ironically, bring us together” (Angela Duckworth, New York Times bestselling author). It will forever change the way you view your parents, peers, coworkers, and children, no matter which generation you call your own.

Eye opening and every now makes sense.

The book did a great job breaking down the difference between generations but more Importantly how technology affected each generation.

After listening to the book things make more sense on our fundamental differences in view points across the generations.

You will come off feeling.ore empathetic to the Gen Z cohort by the end of their chapter.

Informative and a little dry

Very informative. I especially appreciated the information on older generations. Book read like a report or textbook and was pretty dry in some areas. Might have been nice to have some stories/voices from folks of each generation included to make the content even more relatable. Also while the book attempts to be objective, there were point where the authors political biases subtly leaked through which pulled me out of the reporting style of the book (e.g. she talked about parties agreeing about “basic facts” in the context of the pandemic … meaning?)

The narrator was articulate but dry. Just my opinion, but I found myself dozing off or my mind wandering during many points and of the book. I do commend the author for all of the research involved and connecting the information about the generations in North America together… seemed to focus more on America vs other countries.

Excellently written and narrated

Absolutely beautifully written, very informative and up to date and wonderfully narrated. I would highly recommend this to everyone interested in learning about why things are the way they are. Would be great to see the same research done on Non-US or at least European data.
