About this listen

Available in audio-first, an extraordinary new romance by New York Times best-selling author Emma Chase!

Head of the class...

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy — he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school...

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she'd prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.

Just like old times...

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance — and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.

So sweet and funny

This was overall a very sweet book! So many funny moments too.

Not a lot of conflict which I actually really enjoyed. I'm kinda tired of reading books where there's conflict just for the sake of conflict.
there were definitely some very predictable parts but they didn't really bother me.

I also really liked that it showed some real ups and downs and struggles that teenagers in high-school go through, with the message that it's important for someone to be there. To be on their side.

I also definitely cried at one point. You'll know when you read the book. 🐶😭

One of my Favourites

The characters were well developed and narration well done. There were enough ups and downs and plot twists to keep me wanting more.
My favourite parts showed how everyday life can be and is challenging enough to provide the opportunities to grow through grief, disappointment with integrity.
There were parts that brought me to tears and I loved the emphasis on how our choices lead to our quality of life but also how we need each other.
I’ll definitely be reading more by this author.

👍👍 Yes Emma

The Getting Some series is excellent. Listen to this first one first. Getting Schooled. Two of the characters Garrett and Carllie appear in the next book. Andi and Zachary are amazing together. They narrated both, first and second, Getting Played. Just an FYI. If you can listen to another book in between the two books as you will forget it’s not The same characters. With repeat narration, well you get it. It doesn’t matter how good they are you will thank me. Both of these books were awesome. Buy them both and enjoy. PS Zachary’s voice will make you weak in the knees. Well they did mine. Enjoy.👌

Emma's books are the best

Loved the story when I read it years ago, and the audible was perfection. The narrators were amazing. I laughed and I swooned!! Looking forward to more Emma audible

Surprisingly Funny

Didn't expect to enjoy this so much. Found myself chuckling many times while reading. Being a teacher myself made me like the banter with the students even more. Loved the popculture references here and there as well. Oh and SEXY. The male narrator's voice especially -yes!

A love that deserves revisiting

Ms. Chase has mentioned in her newsletter that when she wrote this book she did so with the intention that it would become an audiobook. I loved this romance; not an angsty ride - simply situations arising that allow for two people who should have been together to get beyound a trauma that separated them in high-school. The repartee is sparkling which is particularly evident in Zachary Webber's performance. It's a funny, sweet book and Mr. Webber is perfectly cast as a man who knows his own mind and what he's willing to do to get what he wants. Zachary's comic timing is a highlight of listening to this story; he also brings a passion for coaching football that reflects his ability to be passionate in other areas of Garrett's life. A really terrific performance worth the price of this book.
I felt compelled to leave this review after reading 1 and 2 star ratings of it, I simply cannot imagine anyone not getting Mr. Webber's subtle performance here. I think I'm in love with his voice. (Andi was her usual wonderful self!)
