Brilliant Recordings

This continuation of a quality selection of M.R. James classics is outstanding. I had not really heard much from him before, but am an instant fan. You can hear the influences: James-> Lovecraft->Jackson->Matheson->King. These stories provide what Ghost stories should: Relatable settings that readers can easily picture, empathy-inducing "What The Hell Is Going On" scenarios (mimicking how most skeptics would react), and spine-chilling atmosphere without cheap "jump-scare" antics.

Bravo to the recording standards: Knighted Actor Sir Derek Jacobi performs nearly flawlessly (unsurpassed timbre, cadence, and tone) and dramatic (but judicious) musical highlights at the end of each story demonstrate that the producers have a firm grip on how to portray "creepy".

One wonders why this collection was divided into Two volumes, but I trust Audible Studios had their reasons.. regardless, this installment merits 9 stars out of 10.

TO THE PRODUCERS: Adding story titles to the chapter headings in the Menu would elevate this compendium from "excellent" to "superlative" status
