When documentarian Ben Lawrence reads an article about Jason, now a western Sydney security guard and part-time ghost hunter, he embarks on a seven year journey into a gothic world of suburban graveyards and broken souls.
Paranormal activity, a family’s terrible forgotten secret and a police investigation converge in Ghosthunter, a part family memoir and part true crime podcast. Years of self-reflection and estranged characters from the past bring Jason and Ben to a confronting conclusion – that sometimes the most terrifying ghosts are the ones we find within ourselves.

I failed to pay enough attention
I was seeking fiction, and the "supernatural" title sucked me in. Its a bit unfair to review this based on that perspective, but it is what it is. it's a documentary of a broken man with no childhood that he remembers and an odd hobby... ghosthunting. but that hobby could be stampcollecting for all it contributed to the story.
The subject is a man with a scar. The book started out with the premise that they were seeking how the child that he was, got the scar. It is paced realistically, with insights into his life over half a decade or more. Apparently there is a corresponding film.
It has some good insights into abuse and the sequelae of it. Otherwise it is just a bird's eye view of an abuse-survivor's life. it's decent, but the material fails to generate a theme that spans the narrative, and the narrator's closure at the end seems contrived.

A Pleasant Surprise
I had downloaded this by accident…It was when I first got audible…That being said, I was having a crappy day at work and happened to put this on. I listened to the entire thing. Great mood, cadence of story, everything I needed to forget my woes temporarily.

title slightly off
This is more about the person himself who happens to be a ghost hunter. I still enjoyed this audible series even though it is not what I thought it would be.

This was a fantastic story
Ghosthunter was not what I thought it would be but it was so much better. Ben did an excellent job of weaving a life story that was at times heartbreaking, with several other equally heartbreaking stories leaving the listener with a better understanding of how life circumstances for one person can have a domino effect on several others. Despite not finding too many traditional ghosts, the metaphorical ones were everywhere and that left a lasting impact.
