About this listen

"Rebecca Soler brings this YA adaptation of Rumpelstiltskin to life. . . This audiobook demands to be binged, so listeners should block out some time once they hit play."—AudioFile Magazine

In Gilded, #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer returns to the fairytale world with this haunting tale.

Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller's daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue.

Or so everyone believes.

When one of Serilda's outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods. In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her… for a price. Love isn't meant to be part of the bargain.

Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.

I loved this book going into it not knowing about the fairytail retelling aspect was a treat

Like I said not knowing the hidden fairytail retelling msg made this book even better. If it wasn’t for the name this novel could be its own separate stand alone thing. Non the less such a great story definitely should be an HBO series :)

I loved all the twists and turns. A much loved childhood fairy tale transformed into something totally new. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Meyer does not disappoint

A rich fantasy story with plenty of twists and turns. I enjoy the author’s take on the Rumplestilskin fairytale, it’s not close enough to be predictable, but close enough to be recognizable. A delightfully wicked tale with a cliffhanger ending leaving you wondering when the sequel will be available!

The performance is lovely, very easy to listen to and excellent delivery on the different characters making the story easy to follow.

More please!

Marissa Meyer captivates

I'm a mid thirties mom of two young kids who otherwise regularly feels worn down and stretched too thin. Meyer's books are a wonderful, magical escape and this one is no exception. I love recognizing the familiar aspects of my childhood fairy tales, with the greater depth and changes that Meyer adds. The romance is sweet and beautiful - I find myself remembering the beginnings of my own romantic experiences and my husband gets extra smiles and hugs from me haha (so he likes the books too :P). will read again and again and recommend to any who love fantasy.

gruesome

there's more than a simple story of magic and romance. I couldn't get through this one
I found myself fast forwarding a skipping entire chapters. to me I was either bored or disgusted
cannot reccomend.
beautifully narrated though the story was not for me

too much violence with children being gruesome murdered.
definitely dark.
