Publisher's Summary

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they've always known - and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.

Mare Barrow's blood is red - the color of common folk - but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince - the friend - who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: She is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

Awesome plot line

The person who read it was amazing and easy to listen to. The story itself was a little challenging at time with redefine and annoying inner dialogue but I kept with it for the other new characters and action packed plot line.

can't finish...

I wanted to like this book and continue with this series, but I can't finish this book.
I enjoyed the first book. I think hoping a relationship would grow in the story line. This book feels like it's dragging. There is zero romance. Nothing to complete the action and story line. Don't waste your money if you are the type that enjoys a little romance.

just completely sucked me in! get past the constant repetition of the line "anyone and betray anyone" and the rest is really quote something!

A great book

This book was very difficult to put down, the narrator I think is different from the first book but does an excellent job. I’m enjoying this series a lot and am looking forward to what else Mare conquers. Highly recommend.

Not as good as the first

Still a great book, but a bit of a let down after having enjoyed the first book so much.

Formulaic but Entertaining

The performance was great. The story seemed to lag in a few places, and it was a bit formulaic in its construction, but it was still entertaining.

bad.

I tried. The narrative is patronizing, and repetitive. The dialogue is wooden and reductive. Plot exceedingly thin and boring. All of the characters have the emotional intelligence of eighth graders. Narrator is melodramatic. I made it almost half way.

The same but different

Enjoyed the performance immensely although listening to book one and book 2 consecutively noticed that she performs Maer’s part with a slight difference
