Publisher's Summary

From the number one best-selling author of The Big Short and Flash Boys, the story of FTX’s spectacular collapse and the enigmatic founder at its center.

When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

In Going Infinite Lewis sets out to answer this question, taking listeners into the mind of Bankman-Fried, whose rise and fall offers an education in high-frequency trading, cryptocurrencies, philanthropy, bankruptcy, and the justice system. Both psychological portrait and financial roller-coaster ride, Going Infinite is Michael Lewis at the top of his game, tracing the mind-bending trajectory of a character who never liked the rules and was allowed to live by his own—until it all came undone.

Interesting and topical

Definitely interesting however the final third feels light or rushed? Maybe because the case is now in court ? Maybe because that’s what happens when things blow up ?

Almost like there we clips pasted together (via AI???)
Disappointing read to be honest. Would not recommend.

Financial Master

As usual the master of financial topics makes a complicated story something an average guy can digest, understand, follow and learn.

Fascinating!

How did the world get so crazy. Unlocking the mystery which is SBF,,,,but still there is more to uncover. Enjoyed the book very much. Maybe there will be a squeal after all is said and done.

He does it again…

An insightful, informative and entertaining glimpse into a mind and mindset of Sam and the crypto empire. Beautifully written, as always, fascinating and compelling audiobook.

unlikable main character

I'm normally a huge fan of Michael Lewis' work. but I found this book off putting. usually, he tells the story through fascinating characters. but this time he told the story from the perspective of a character I believe is probably a sociopath. SBF is such an unlikable and I'm relatable character, that the story just lacks any interest when it rides on his shoulders.

Interesting quick listen

I enjoyed it. Good narration and interesting storyline. Quick turnaround considering how recently it all happened

A little disappointing

Lewis is typically more insightful and captures the content in a more compelling and creative way. Maybe it was the story itself. Felt half-baked. In an effort to be ahead of the story (trial and conviction) he may not have had time to catch the nuance and develop richness like he normally does.

Lewis did not stick the landing

I appreciate the author's efforts to dive into SBF's psyche for the vast majority of the book, but the last two chapters of the book seemed to have completely missed the mark and the point of the book. The focus of the concluding chapter is perplexing and and its pace was hard to follow.
The book ultimately does not address SBF's crime, being released just ahead of his trial. As such, critical evidence revealed during the trial is not part of the book. One has to wonder whether the author should have waited until the end of the trial to have a more logical and complete conclusion to the whole story.
