About this listen
Horse racing’s newest dream team.
Liv’s smart, shy, and a total control freak, but she’s ready to throw away a future in veterinary medicine to become a jockey.
Nate’s good on a horse, and good with people. Except Liv. He can’t quite crack Liv. Chique, though? He’s got that filly wrapped around his little finger.
Chique’s equal parts talent and exasperation, and carrying the hopes and dreams of her human teammates—all the way…hopefully…please, filly…to Canada’s most prestigious race: the Queen’s Plate.

"Linda Shantz's debut sweeps readers into the turbulent, high-stakes world of horse racing. Shantz has a keen eye for the equestrian details, but it's her characters and horses who will pull at heartstrings. This is truly the horse racing romance I've always wanted." (Mara Dabrishus, author of Stay the Distance and Finding Daylight)

A young adult/ teen level story of determination and patience despite setbacks.
As the title predicts, the main characters face numerous challenges along their quest for success in the field of horse racing. I think the moral of the story is to keep your eyes on the prize, and persevere.
The characters are young adults, and the author writes from this perspective. I was disappointed that the author didn't share Liv's veterinary knowledge and have her offer medical opinions, as she had already completed three years toward her degree, and was about to apprentice when she dropped out to pursue horse racing. This would have piqued my interest while reading this book.
The narrator didn't get excited enough during the racing segments! overall, I enjoyed this book, and recommend it for teens who love horses!
