When the ghastly thing opened its mouth, Alan could have sworn he could smell the overwhelming odor of death itself, coming from deep inside it's rotting guts.
The stomach churning smell of spoiled meat, rotten eggs, and an underlying scent of sickly sweetness that was threatening to make Alan physically ill.
But that wasn't the worst part of it all; when the thing spoke to him, he recognized the voice.
It was the voice of his dead wife, Veronica.
Her voice, ruined by time and rot, sent shivers down his spine as she whispered in his ear "Good night, my love. See you in the morning..."
That's when Alan woke up screaming....
