About this listen
Kara Richardson Whitely knew that she could reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. She had done it once before. That's why, when she failed in a second attempt, it brought her so low. As she struggled with food addiction and looked for ways to cope with feelings of failure and shame, Kara's weight shot to more than 300 pounds. Deep in her personal gorge, Kara realized that the only way out was up. She resolved to climb the mountain again - and this time she would reach the summit without waiting for her plus-sized status to disappear.
Gorge: My Journey up Kilimanjaro at 300 Pounds is the raw story of Kara's ascent from the depths of self-doubt to the top of the world. Her difficult but inspiring trek speaks to every woman who has struggled with her self-image or felt that food was controlling her life. Honest and unforgettable, Kara's journey is one of intense passion, endurance, and self-acceptance.

Enjoyed the story, but
Quality of narration was a bit distracting. There were many obvious spots that were taped at different levels, and the pace of speech was difficult to handle with oddly timed pauses and changes in tempo. I pushed through because I was intrigued by Kara’s unique story and she continued to hold my interest with her words.
Thank you. And I hope you are continuing to experience a full life.

Interesting book
I liked some of this book. I really enjoyed hearing about the mountain climb but I found the story of trauma and eating talk a little long and tedious to be honest Like other reviewers it was very distracting to have the strange volume increase every so often like
that sentence was meant to be be punctuated. I did skip to the last few chapters after listening to about half the book. I follow the author on Instagram and find her inspirational but parts of this book are a little too much.
