About this listen
Heat, humidity, and homicide are things veteran Detective Sawyer Key expects to encounter on his first day with the Savannah Police Department, but the hostile reception from his new partner catches him by surprise. Sawyer isn't a stranger to heartache and recognizes that Royce Locke is a wounded man who's reeling from a devastating loss. Relentless and patient in all things, Sawyer is determined to make the new partnership work.
Savannah, Georgia, is known for her quirky people, oak trees draped in Spanish moss, and antebellum architecture. Beneath the Southern charm and hospitality, festering hatred and violence is soaring with the summer temperatures. Locke and Key find themselves at the epicenter when their first case involves the death of a former shock jock who appears to be the victim of vigilante justice.
Opposites in nearly every way, the two detectives set aside their differences to take back their city and restore law and order. From this reluctant truce, an intense attraction grows that will either tighten or shatter their tenuous bond. The fuse is lit, the clock is running, and the zero hour is upon them. Ticktock.
Contains mature themes.

Thoroughly enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book a lot. Very little drama, suspenseful on the work end of things which keeps things interesting. Very well written. Good narration!

Captivating
Geez, I love Aimee. This Savannah detective romance was everything you could want. Broody slightly damaged men with a soft centre and sexual tension for days, along with some interesting cases that they have to solve.
This would make a perfect HBO series.
Detective Locke lost his last partner and he absolutely doesn’t want a new one. Especially not Detective Key. The stupidly good-looking man who doesn’t seem phased by his abrasive attitude and cold shoulder.
It doesn’t take Key very long to recognize the wounded man underneath his angry bravado. And he can be equally stubborn. So he may want him gone, but that’s not going to happen.
Under the distraction of working cases, they are forced to get to know each other, and that’s how Locke begins to SLOWLY accept Key as his partner.
As they also start to acknowledge the sexual tension, they also have to admit that they have different expectations for a partner. Steady vs. no-strings. I’m excited to watch them play out more. I’m also excited about more cases.
There are so many great moments. High tension, great banter, humour. It was all beautifully done and delivered perfectly.
Narrator Tristan James did a wonderful job capturing these two. Looking forward to more.

Great listen
Great read/listen. I especially like that it wasn’t the atypical novel where it’s one murderer hacking through the city and this one killer is the sole focus of the entire book. I liked the romance aspect as well, as it was one where they actually got to know each other, not instant love.
Though quick, I liked the tie ups to the murders.

Great story!
This is a great series. I’ve read the books and enjoyed them. Unfortunately the narration in this audiobook was very flat and didn’t have the depth to make the characters come to life. Better to read the book instead.
