About this listen
Book five in the Gaunt's Ghosts series.
Gaunt's Ghosts make a daring drop assault on a vital world, but as tensions within the regiment reach boiling point, the enemy may not be the biggest threat....
Listen to It Because
The Ghosts are thrown into a new kind of war, sent into battle on grav-chutes to fight on platforms far above a toxic atmosphere. And the atmosphere in the regiment isn't much better as the feud between Mad Larkin and the really insane Lijah Cuu heats up...and turns deadly.
The story
Gaunt’s Ghosts embark on their most dangerous mission yet as they make a daring drop assault on the world of Phantine. With the elite enemy Blood Pact and vicious xenos mercenaries ranged against them and short of ammunition with no means of escape, things look grim for the Tanith First. But the greatest danger may come from within the regiment as an old grudge is settled and tragedy strikes.

Story
Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Another fantastic story by Dan Abnett
You know its great story telling when it makes your wife cry. No spoilers, but it will punch you in the feels. Toby Longworth is by far, one of the best narrators out there and he never disappoints. And Dan Abnett always provides excellent story, pacing and character development. We're looking forward to the release of the remaining books on audio upto the news ones already released. If you like military scifi, then do yourself a favor and read this series.

Another great Gaunts Ghosts
The only downside to the audiobook for me was the editing errors where you can hear Toby Longworth repeat lines until he gets it the way he likes, but that's not his fault or audibles fault thats the editor that games workshop used and missed before publishing.

Great Listen
This was a great mix up for the formula of previous books. The story really gets going after the halfway mark. Minor complaint to the most excellent and very talented Toby Longworth, having just listened to the previous novel I noticed a fairly distinct change in the voice of Commissar Hark, he quickly became one of my favorite characters during the last book so to hear his voice take on a much more pompous tone was a bit of a shame. Otherwise another stellar listen.

Great story, great performance, terrible editing
I think that my title says it all, the story and performance are top notch. However, the editing is lacklustre to say the least, there are quite a few repeated lines throughout this audiobook.
