About this listen
"It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I'd still be screwed, because there's no way I'd ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors."
The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.
With Guts, Johnston takes us on a journey so truthful and relatable, so remarkably fresh, it promises to stay with the listener for a long, long time.

Lacking vanity and completely authentic
Kristen not only shares her story, her journey and her soul, she provides some great insights and vision about life. I watch a friend who was an addict slowly decay and die because he was murdered over a drug deal gone wrong. I can understand his journey a little more.

<3 Kristen Johnston <3 It's a big triumph
I have been wanting to read this book for Years now after buying the hard copy for my sister, and having been a massive fan of Kristen Johnston's ("3rd Rock From the Sun" is my absolute favourite comedic show. Hands down. The situational comedy is brilliant, and am currently working on my 3rd time through the show- it offers childhood nostalgia. BUT THIS IS ABOUT MS. JOHNSTON'S 'GUTS'!). I Finally signed-up for audibles to get my hands on the book (great timing too, what with craving different forms of entertainment, especially these days). It did not disappoint. Wow.
Not only is the story brutally honest and fascinating, tackling life's blows in a Kristen-Johnston-branded comedic delivery (despite the subject matter, it's certainly not to a depressive read!), the listener is treated to her spectacular delivery. Having an audiobook read by the author is a wonderful; the author being a talented actor- unbelievably unique opportunity. She balances the performance with being so candid. She exposes her 'guts' all over again. The piece reads like a radio play; like a somehow polished stream of consciousness, it's easy to get whisked away in the idea that she is sharing with you- directly to you. A genuinely fantastic piece.
