About this listen
"After four, I quit counting. What's the point if you know it isn't going to stop?"
Sadie is jealous. Why wouldn't she be? Her life is falling apart. Meanwhile, her new neighbor is everything she is not.
Ann is perfect-the kind of woman everyone loves to hate-and a best friend to die for. She hosts over-the-top dinner parties, takes parenting to an entirely different level, and makes ambition look sexy as hell.
Sadie learns quick: the best way to cure jealousy is to befriend it. She also learns there's more to her new friend than meets the eye. She's patient, she's kind, and possibly a serial killer.
It isn't until Ann's proclivities hit a little too close to home that Sadie has to ask herself how much she's willing to overlook in the name of getting what she wants.
Exquisitely paced, Her is an unnerving and electrifying psychological thriller about jealousy, passion, and the dangerous places desire can take you. Full of enough tension and twists to make even the most seasoned suspense listener break out in a cold sweat, it keeps you guessing until the very end.

Plodding
Britney King introduces overweight, sexually-frustrated, self-conscious 'Sadie' to readers - a lonely housewife falling under the sway of a glamorous manipulative celebrity author named 'Ann' that introduces her to an "almost-over-the-edge" worldview. Meanwhile, an unknown murderer known as 'Her' is lurking somewhere in the background - leaving a succession of corpses that pleases Ann for some reason. Reviewers characterizing the plot as "confusing" have a legitimate point - the POVs & events are all over the place.
The publisher's summary claim of "exquisite pacing" is actually laughable: almost nothing substantial happens until the climax of the book (beyond the degeneration of Sadie into a detestable self-obsessed bisexual hedonist).
Fortunately for audiobook consumers, reader Lauren Ezzo elevates the book with an emotive performance. Her narration isn't flawless, mind you (Ezzo reads too slowly, for example).. but she delivers peerless diction, timbre, cadence, and tone. Her voice-acting is furthermore excellent on this project. If you are offered the choice between a text copy or this recorded iteration, choose this one.
The book is mainly a maddeningly scattershot seduction story - with notably unlikable characters - but it's worth a download if you can get it as a 'Plus' option. The "suspense" elements keep you guessing, at least. When they ask for a Credit for this 5/10-star book, however, save it for something better.
[Seriously, look up "Netorare" (a genre of Japanese Hentai Porn) if you want to know what this book is actually about]
