Publisher's Summary

Before he was “Big Texas,” he was “Zac the Snack Pack".

Bianca Brannen knows time - mostly - heals all wounds. Including those your once loved ones might have unintentionally given you. (Those just take longer.)

She thinks she’s ready when a call has her walking back into her old friend’s life. Or at least, as prepared as possible to see the starting quarterback in the National Football Organization. Before the lights, the fans, and the millions, he’d been a skinny kid with a heart of gold.

Waltzing out of Zac Travis’s life should be easy. Just as easy as he walked out of hers.

Loved it, Hands Down!

The amount of times I wanted to scream at Zac and scream at Bianca was endless...but Mariana is the master of a slow burn and the miscommunications!

Callie and Chris did an amazing job of narrating.

Awwwwww…. Love me some BIG Texas

I’m so excited this book was done on audio!! Callie Dalton and Chris Brinkley did an amazing job!! I’ve wanted to hear Zac’s story for so long. I fell in awe with him in The Wall of Winnipeg book! But this book made me love this Texan even more!! This story had some unexpected twists and turns. But these two are so good together and REAL!! I loved all the silliness and love these two friends shared. They may have been distant for a really long time but fate brings them back together and one thing leads to another. Mariana Zapata knows how to write a slow burn……. I do like books where things are happening right away but these slow burns make you anticipate the moment it all finally happens!! Loved it!!

Worth the wait!

Hands Down’s audio release was postponed due to all the complications of 2020. It was definitely worth the wait! Callie Dalton is perfect as Bianca, and Chris Brinkley’s voice is perfect as Zac.

If you like age gap romance, friends-to-lovers, and slow burn - this is one you’ll enjoy. There’s lovely secondary characters, great banter and fun “when will they realize how much they care” energy built up through the whole book.

There’s a few clunky bits - the way the “why the MCs lost touch” storyline develops feels a little forced, and it’s a very convenient moment when there’s a bed when needed- they’re easy to overlook.

Amazing!!

As always, Mariana delivered. I have yet to find an author as good as her. I cannot wait for her next book! Her books always have the same style but that’s what makes them so good, keep them coming!

Not my favourite.

I have just recently read two other books by MZ and really enjoyed them, this one, however, I could barely get through. I found the narration very grating. I was looking forward to a continuation of the Zack character from The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, but the narrator did not match the voice I was expecting. I also found this story to be very repetitive as many of the same descriptive words were used continually throughout the book.
The story was a good one, just not as well written as MZ’s others in my opinion. I will continue to read her books, but think I will give the audio versions a pass.

Boring and random

There was so much random stuff going on in this story I was bored or lost most of the time. Trying to gather critical facts I’d often have to go back and listen over and over to get them out of the never ending pointless dialog of the female lead. Hard to get through. The end was nice but I’d never listen to this again.

Disappointing follow-up to “Wall of Winnipeg”

I really enjoyed “Wall of Winnipeg”- I’ve listened to it three times- and liked Zac’s character a lot, so I thought I would enjoy “Hands Down”. Unfortunately, I found Bianca’s inner dialogue far too repetitive and there wasn’t enough going on in the storyline to help me push through all of the variations of “I have forgiven him: I’m going to forgive him”. I liked Callie Dalton’s narration and didn’t think having a male narrator for Zac’s parts was necessary, but I got used to the switches quickly. This title is a return for me.

Struggled...took months to finish

I struggled with this one. 1) she needs to change up her female narrator. 2) I waited so long for it I lost interest

Wa wa waaa……felt flat

Waited for the audio on this book as her last book(the best thing) was not my favourite and I thought her audiobooks are fantastic I will wait. I love Mariana zapata so this pains me. Bianca was all over the place, it was really hard to connect with her. I felt like everything happened vaguely. They would occasionally mention her parents who were awful parent but did lot to help less fortunate countries I am not even sure what they did other then abandon their child…children?? There would a problem and then poof it randomly solved with little relevance to the nonexistent plot. The narration was good.
