About this listen

This biting satire won Canadian author Will Ferguson the prestigious Canadian Authors Association Award for Fiction as well as a Leacock Medal for Humour.

Lowly editor Edwin de Valu's life moves at a pretty humdrum pace, until he discovers the manuscript for Tupak Soiree's book on his desk. This self-help tome is different - it actually works. And soon the world turns upside down thanks to the advice of this mysterious guru.

A good yarn, but weak performance

I read “Generica” when it was first released, and thought revisiting it would be interesting. The story holds up, but unfortunately the narrator is of the Shatner School - choppy, weird emphasis, indistinguishable characters - quite disappointing.

Don’t bother. Don’t bother at all.

This bloated mess might have benefitted, ironically, by the use of an editor. Every word, every phrase, every idea in it is repeated. Over and over. And over.

Give it a miss. A real miss. Miss it entirely.
