About this listen
Unable to sleep, 11-year-old Harvey Ranger sends his drone out the window to search for whales over Weymouth Bay. Whales are nowhere to be found, but what Harvey does find sends him on a journey that leaves him floating alone on a raft in the English Channel and makes him the central figure in solving the largest robbery in the history of the world.
Science and history merge into an exciting and humorous true-to-life story that will leave your child feeling that it could have actually happened to them.
A humorous pre-teen adventure story with drones, helicopters, machine guns, and a submarine. Enjoyed by children and adults alike.

An Incredibly Engaging and Hilarious Book!
In "The Whale That Wasn't," Harvey Ranger is a curious and determined eleven-year-old on a quest to be the first person to capture drone footage of an elusive whale in the harbour near his home. However, things are not what they seem, and instead, the always endearing Harvey ends up embarking on an epic adventure filled with robbers, submarines, helicopters, and so much more.
There were so many things to love about this book, but I especially loved that it was an ideal blend of the ordinary and the remarkable. Harvey is an extraordinarily perceptive and unflappable tech-savvy character, bright enough to save the day. He's also a relatable character, as an eleven-year-old with a great imagination, big dreams, a little sister who talks too much for his liking, and an always hungry belly.
I also loved how well thought out this book was. The author managed to combine numerous minor details into a satisfying narrative that, even as an adult reading a book geared to pre-teens, left me wanting more! The characters are so real they practically jump off the page, and I can't begin to count the number of times I found myself laughing out loud.
This book is a fabulous read, with something for everyone to enjoy, and I highly recommend it. Even the narrator was perfectly chosen. I have already gifted this book to my niece and nephew, and I can't wait to read about Harvey's next adventure!
