About this listen

The story of a young illegitimate son of a Norman noble and the daughter of an English housecarl. Forced to be little more than a servant Robert fitz Malet shows the world and his half brothers that he has qualities which mark him as different. When he meets the famous troubadour, Taillefer, he becomes one of the most skilled swordsmen in Duke William's army as they prepare to invade England and claim the crown promised to him by King Edward.

Introduction of an exciting new hero and series

After listening to the Aelfraed and Anarchy series of Hosker's books showing England after the Norman invasion; it was a lot of fun to be introduced to Robert fitz Malet an illegitimate son of an Norman Noble and an English servant. We see the Battle of Hastings from the Norman Side. There is an evil villain and battles a plenty. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series to become available in audio.
