About this listen

It was supposed to be a medical marvel. Instead, it triggered the apocalypse.

Half of humanity mutated into mindless zombies. Half the survivors mutated into the inhumans: various new species of people with new appearances and abilities. Some grew scales, some grew fur, some could fly, some could survive only underwater.

Decades passed, and from the ashes of the old world, a new patchwork civilization rose. Humans and inhumans lived in tentative peace, and the zombies turned out to be not much of a threat once a few generations of survivors had come and gone.

All that changed last spring when the virus mutated again. Now, the inhumans are mutating into lethal horrors and running rampant, murdering thousands.

David is a survivor. Born decades after the collapse, his is a life of lonely wandering. As the first winter in this new world of dangerous monsters sets, he finds a place to bunk down for the season. But David has no idea that he is about to be forced to change the course of his entire life. When the settlement he intended to stay at is destroyed, he wanders the frozen countryside and begins encountering other survivors, many of them attractive, inhuman woman, looking for the same thing he is: comfort, companionship, and a place to call home...

This collection contains HAVEN 1-8 & HAVEN—EPILOGUE. It also contains three bonus short stories.

HAVEN features badass women, settlement building, and lots of monster fighting.

This book doesn't know what it wants to be.

This story has many problems, but probably the biggest I've noticed is the fact that it tries to be too many things at the same time. Let me elaborate.

First off, this is an alleged zombie apocalypse where humanity is ravaged by this virus that somehow turn only part of the population into zombies, but at the same time it turns them into half-animal half-human hybrids? Really? That's not a very creative theme to go with. It's just too silly as an apocalyptic setting. Like Fallout trying to be Skyrim and failing miserably.

Secondly, the MC is really tough to stomach. His character is essentially a Simp who obeys every woman he comes across. The harem is poorly written, which is a surprise because as far as genres go, Harem has a pretty low bar to hit. The story fails to hit the mark entirely. The erotica itself is written pretty badly. It's extremely corny and uses the same words over and over again. I'd have expected Misty vixen to expand on his vocabulary after making so many books but... I guess not.

Lastly, the performance was very middling. In a way I suppose that matches the rest of the overall quality this audiobook has, though. I know this all sounds like I have a personal vendetta against this complete series, but believe me I gave it an honest shot. It was hard to stomach, and I would have not made a review If I didn't feel like I got robbed out of a credit by buying this half-way through listening to it. Do yourself a favor give this one a pass. Whatever you're looking for you're not going to find it here. The erotica sucks. The narrative sucks. The performance sucks. The story is abysmal.

Note: It's a shame Ellory Lane's recording hardware isn't the same quality at the start as in the later books because this complete series could have sure used it.

I tried to give it a chance

... the voice actor she did pretty good with the material that she's got in front of her though this feels like a setup for failure.
story-wise it is a flop....
excessive use of the same words, apocalypse world where everybody still has easy access to firearms? that have been out of production if for decades?

MC enters an area... meets a girl .....bones her...meets a girl .....bones her... saves a few people, scrounged like a scavenger should.. meets a girl .....bones her...meets a girl .....bones her...

the story would have potential as a quote unquote gentleman's novel or a harem adventure if there was more adventure and planning and not every second page bed sheet wrestling. the world base has potential. but I tried. I went through what best thing would consider the entire first book. I even started a couple chapters in the second book but you can only listen to so much without it being repetitive.
