Publisher's Summary

A new novel in the beloved New York Times bestselling Longmire series.

Picking up where Daughter of the Morning Star left off, the next Longmire novel finds the sheriff digging further into the mysteries of the wandering without—a mythical all-knowing spiritual being that devours souls.

Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

After Walt's initial investigation into Jeanie's disappearance yielded no satisfying conclusions, Walt has to confront the fact that he may be dealing with an adversary unlike any he has ever faced before.

Wow

I loved this story, it followed the thread referred to in past books.
Craig Johnson is a story wizard and George Guidel is an amazing reader.

Amazing

A Western Gothic story, wholly imagined by the author. Part Twilight Zone, part Steven King with hints to Roger Zelazny. Walt Longmire’s World collides with Gothic Fantasy to create this thrilling and touching study of loss, regret and redemption.

We were such Longmire fans until now

This story was very hard to follow.

We have been died-in-the-wool Longmire fans since Craig Johson's first books. We always waited patiently for new books to be published and narrated.

We love the Longmire mysteries - the storyline, detail, and humor usually make them first-rate. This one was not one we would recommend to our friends. We could handle the supernatural excursions in previous books. This time was different.

The only thing that kept us listening to (almost) the end was the ever-so-excellent narration by George Guidall
