As a life long Star Trek fan, Petkoff's prefirmance as know characters was impecable. He captured both Picard anf Worf near perfectly, well done. Can't wait for parts two and three.

John Jackson Miller is astonishingly careful to ensure that this book fits into Star TrekTM canon. Carefully coordinated Stardates, reliance on historical Federation of Planets alliances/battles to inform the plot, and Easter Egg after Easter Egg referencing events & characters in Trek films and TNG episodes gave me the impression that this book was written for those guys/gals that learn to speak Klingon and travel across the country to attend Comic-Con. The story gets a bit bogged down in political maneuvering among the Klingons, but has enough action to keep a relatively casual SciFi fan like myself interested.

As to presentation: Robert Petkoff is an extremely talented voice actor - turning in spot-on impressions of Patrick Stewart and Walter Koenig, for example. Less fortunately, his natural resting timbre + cadence don't quite fit the tone of the book, but Simon & Schuster Audio cast a solidly "above-average" narrator for the project.

Altogether, 'Prey: Book One: Hell's Heart' merits 7 stars out of 10. I look forward to the continuation of the tale in 'The Jackal's Trick' - hopefully more action-oriented with the background solidly established. Jackson-Miller isn't going to win any writing awards.. but he has a great sense of combat pacing and an evident passion for his subject matter. The man is clearly a dedicated fan.
