Publisher's Summary

"Let's play truth or dare, for old times' sake...."

I reluctantly agree, silently praying none of my three oldest friends gets the chance to ask me a truth. There is so much I've been keeping from them. Just for this weekend, for our long-awaited college reunion, I want to put all that aside and have some fun.

But it wasn't my secrets I should have been worried about. It was theirs.

When Ada draws truth, she can't meet my eye. "Ivy....," she begins and then stops. Before saying something that I immediately wish she could take back.

But of course she can't, not now.

The worst thing is no one else seems as shocked. I realize they have let me think I was to blame all these years. Perhaps I never knew my closest friends to begin with. Maybe we were never actually friends all....

Definitely not a suspense

The narration was good but the overall storyline was lacking. Definitely not suspenseful and psychological is the most pedestrian sense.

*Yawn* Not For Me

Emily Cavanagh offers a tale about four one-time college roommates having a "Girls' Weekend". Each struggles with hyperrealistic depictions of problems like professional/financial struggles, marital troubles, new motherhood, becoming a widow, etc. The vividly described character exposition sounds strikingly authentic and like something out of a professional psychologist's therapy session notes. It's very well-written. I'm also happy to report that I have a heart: the syrupy sweet ending was undeniably emotionally affecting.
Less fortunately, I found the story annoyingly domestic/mundane. Fights between husbands & wives, moms & daughters, and between BFF girlfriends just aren't that interesting to me. As a voracious consumer of books of dozens of different genres, this book was comparatively uneventful. Literally nothing of any consequence happens beyond disputes, rivalries, and fake Facebook happiness (I was praying for a vampire or a serial killer or even just a fistfight or something).

Reader Emily Durante does her best to improve the presentation - and the narration is certainly above-average - but marred by occasional subpar male character interpretations. I wasn’t blown away.

'Her Guilty Secret' likely merits a better score, but I can't rate it higher than 6 stars out of 10. It's just not my kind of book. It was a serviceable 'Plus' selection (I'm happy that I gave it a try) - and probably worth your Credit if you're into "Women's Fiction" - but I can't unreservedly recommend it.

good but not what i expected

this is definitely not what you would expect for a book marked as psychological and suspense..

the story shows many perspectives and nuances of the different lifestyles of the friends and the performance was satisfactory but again not what i would describe as particularly psychological or suspenseful or maybe i'm just too used to listening to thrillers with those markers as well

Great for this genre

Good book by this author and the narration of all the voices were very good.
I did enjoy this book even though I have to admit that I have never read a book in this genre . I am more of a thriller suspense person. So this was none of that.
Having said that about this book I must say I enjoyed the story. It’s nice to see women supporting each other.
It took me back to my time with my best friends before marriage and when we get together now we are just as crazy but learn so much from each other circumstances and we respect each other’s family life.
A beautiful book. Thank you Audible Plus.
