About this listen
This program is read by the author and includes a bonus conversation.
The over-the-top memoir of a real-life mobster-turned-actor who helped make The Godfather a reality, and his story of life on the edge between danger and glamour.
Gianni Russo was a handsome 25-year-old mobster with no acting experience when he walked onto the set of The Godfather and entered Hollywood history. He played Carlo Rizzi, the husband of Connie Corleone, who set her brother Sonny - played by James Caan - up for a hit. Russo didn't have to act - he knew the mob inside and out: from his childhood in Little Italy, where Mafia legend Frank Costello took him under his wing, to acting as a messenger for New Orleans mob boss Carlos Marcello during the Kennedy assassination, to having to go on the lam after shooting and killing a member of the Colombian drug cartel in his Vegas club.
Along the way, Russo befriended Frank Sinatra, who became his son's godfather, and Marlon Brando, who mentored his career as an actor after trying to get Francis Ford Coppola to fire him from The Godfather. Russo had passionate affairs with Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minelli, and scores of other celebrities. He went on to star in The Godfather: Parts I and II, Seabiscuit, Any Given Sunday, and Rush Hour 2, among many other films, and also acted as producer on several. Hollywood Godfather is his no-holds-barred account of a life lived on the edge. It is a story filled with violence, glamour, sex - and fun.

The best part is the writer also narrated the audio book. His voice really helps form the images in your head when he is describing a story.

An incredible story!
Why haven't more people listened to this book?? This story was facinating and captivating. After five minutes, I was hooked and couldn't wait to listen to more. Mr. Russo has lived 100 life times through his tenacious battle for survival in a world that only a few can fathom. He transparently guides the listener through his experiences in a genuine and matter of fact way. You will not get anywhere close to the same experience if you read the book yourself. Mr. Russo must be heard to round out an entertaining experience that only he can provide. I am now listening to his podcast which I highly recommend also. Awesome. Thanks for writing this book Mr. Russo!

The real most interesting man alive ?
Very entertaining tale of this unbelievable life but not sure where the con starts and the truth ends.
I bought this based on an interview I heard promoting book. He contradicts himself a few times comparing interview and books "facts", and doesn't even touch on other things he stated in interview such as his supposed friendship with the Pope.
The reading performance is ok considering he was supposedly illiterate until adulthood but is not up to the level of a professional.
That said it is still a completely enjoyable biography of an extremely charismatic and interesting character.

My first time awarding 5 stars...
I typically don't like Amazon's hired narrators (too British, too soft, etc.). Felt good to hear an authentic American voice narrate. The story is a historical journey for younger guys like me. Thanks for the great listen Mr. Russo!
