About this listen
This is a tale of a boy named Horace growing up to manhood in rural Northern Ireland in 1918. It is a semi-fictional account of my father's life from 1918 to after World War Two. The book is filled with humor, sadness, and experiences of a rural life in a time now lost in history.
Being Irish, my father had the gift of eloquence, and his tall tales made it hard to distinguish truth from exaggeration. But above all, he was an honest man, and this account of his life has a lot of historical fact and truth within, since life was different back then.
If you have any distant Irish ancestry or enjoy old Ireland or just stories full of humor, then you will enjoy this book. It traces his life birth to school and apprenticeship, to stepping out and becoming an independent man.
This is my father, and this is his story.
