The Great Courses
About this listen
We have conversations every day, but how many of those can be considered effective? The right conversation can help establish strong relationships, solve problems, create new opportunities, and build communities. The right conversation can change everything.
But how does one prepare to have a conversation in an effective way?
In 10 lectures for self-development, professional communications coach and speaker Carol Ann Lloyd teaches the best ways to communicate and listen, including how to focus on understanding, how to overcome barriers and distractions, and how to clarify intentions. When listeners step back to hear what makes conversations successful, they will learn that each component of a conversation is a piece of a larger puzzle, which only fits together when thoughtfully considered and executed.
Conversations that matter take effort, and every conversation can be R.E.A.L. (Relevant, Effective, Affirming, Legitimate.) Carol Ann Lloyd also shares the three pitfalls in tough conversations...and how to avoid them. By the end of this course, listeners will have a new way of understanding the way people communicate, and will develop the confidence to live the life they want to live - one conversation at a time.

Useful, excellently organized and highly enjoyable.
The audio book was excellently organized and highly enjoyable. It provided a wealth of useful tips and advice that were effectively presented through clear examples.
Although there were some instances where the narrator's pace was slightly slow, this was not a significant issue as the audio speed can easily be adjusted.

very helpful for relationship building
I'm abrasive. my relationships need work. this helped me understand my inners working and the inner thought processes of others. it highlighted how things get lost in translation if you're not mindful about conversation.

Some great tips
Some handy tips in this book with illustrative examples. I enjoyed this book in Carol’s own voice.
I think my favourite tip is to know the goal/desired outcome of your conversation. Will keep that in mind and use it in the future!

For a conversation specialist she is bad lecturer.
First the performance could use some work but granted I don't know how grate courses records their lectures. whether they just recorded a live lecture or they have the professor come in for a recording appointment. Second so much work and phrase repetition that it is hard to not tune her out. lastly the lectures them selves could be restructured to be more engaging and more memorable.
